A Response to Does Knowledge = Science?

Science Victoria, the magazine of the Royal Society of Victoria, recently ran an article titled "Does Knowledge = Science?" The premise was a debate on whether Indigenous knowledge systems count as science. Motivated by recent conversations with Duane Hamacher and Lynne Kelly, as well as my reading of Horizons by James Poskett, I felt compelled to write a letter to the editor. The President, to whom the letter was initially addressed, welcomed the response and asked to print it in the latest issue.

Blue Machine by Helen Czerski makes a big promise. This book is going to explain what exactly the ocean is and how it works. In analogy to a machine, as the title implies, the book promises to explain the mechanisms that fuel and drive this machine, and, dear reader, what the implications are to you and me.
