ABOUT ME
I am a life-long wave watcher and research scientist specializing in the physics of ocean waves currently based in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
My research takes me to the extremes. After earning my Ph.D. from the University of Miami and studying rogue waves in Tokyo, I focused my work on the Arctic, where I documented the largest waves ever recorded in sea ice. Today, I use satellite data and miniature wave buoys to understand how waves develop in hurricanes. I am active in the global research community, co-hosting the WISE seminar series and collaborating with scientists worldwide. Beyond the hard science, I explore the craft of communication as the host of the Book Science podcast. When I’m not analyzing data or interviewing authors, I’m usually in the water with my partner and our two children. |
